The Vine: November 4, 2026
Our fresh take on The Vine, a devotional based on the upcoming Sunday’s sermon. This is a tool for you to dive deep into specific verses of scripture and get acquainted with spiritual practices. This iteration of The Vine pairs perfectly with the pastors’ “First Glance Podcast.” The Vine: First Glance Podcast is when the pastors sit down to discuss the scripture for the upcoming sermon. It is a wonderful opportunity to prepare your mind and heart for the week ahead. We invite you to make this a part of your individual spiritual growth throughout the week.
“Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But only speak the word and let my servant be healed."
Luke 7:6-7
Gratitude grows when we recognize that healing comes not because we are worthy, but because Jesus cares.
In Luke 7, the centurion understood something many of us struggle to believe. Although others spoke highly of him and described him as deserving, the centurion himself came before Jesus with humility. He did not claim entitlement. Instead, he trusted in the compassion and authority of Christ.
The healing ministry of Jesus reveals a Savior who responds to human need with mercy. Again and again throughout the Gospels, Jesus touched the sick, comforted the suffering, restored the broken, and brought hope to those who felt forgotten. His healing love was not reserved for the worthy, the powerful, or the religious. It was offered freely to all who came to Him in faith.
The centurion's faith amazed Jesus because it rested completely on who Jesus was. He believed that Christ's word was enough. He trusted that Jesus cared enough to heal someone who could not even come to Him personally.
We are invited to have that same faith today. Whether we seek healing of body, mind, spirit, relationships, or communities, we can approach Jesus with confidence. Gratitude begins when we remember that God's love is a gift, not a reward. Every breath, every day of health, every moment of strength, and every sign of restoration is evidence of Christ's ongoing care for us.
During challenging times in our nation and our world, we can give thanks that Jesus still sees, still cares, and still speaks words of healing and peace.
Spiritual Practice: Pause and thank God
Pause and thank God for one specific healing you have experienced, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or relational.
One Thing: Pray for a specific person
Pray for someone else who needs Christ's healing presence, trusting that Jesus still cares for all people and still speaks words of life and hope.
Questions for Consideration:
1. Where have I experienced God's healing grace, and how can I express gratitude for it today?
2. How does the centurion's faith challenge me to trust Jesus more fully in my own needs and concerns?
3. What relationship, situation, or community in my life needs Christ's healing touch, and how can I pray for it this week?
