Garden of the Saints Columbarium
The Garden of the Saints offers a place of peace and serenity where church members and friends can inter and remember loved ones. More and more frequently members of our church or their family members and friends are choosing to be cremated. This columbarium is the result of many member requests for First Church to create a space where cremated remains could be placed. A columbarium fulfills the obligation of the church to serve its members from baptism to death; provides a faithful stewardship option, and offers a final homecoming for church members.
In addition to the columbarium, the Garden of the Saints includes a memorial wall. Stone wall plaques that match columbarium facing stone will be placed on the wall in memory of family members who do not choose the columbarium option but wish to be part of the garden. The memorial wall will also be available to memorialize former members and/or loved ones who are already interred elsewhere.
Labyrinth
Located in the south parking area near the Garden of the Saints Columbarium, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool for meditation and prayer, representing unity and the journey of life. There is no right or wrong way to walk our labyrinth. As you walk, simply let go of the details of your life. Each turn can be imagined as the turns in one's own life or in their day. Pray for guidance and listen for God's voice in the noises around you.
Stained Glass Windows
Our sanctuary stained glass windows are among the most beautiful features of our First Church Campus. The most visible is the stunning cross in the east window, but all of the windows tell a story.
Abide is a monthly special service of silence, contemplation, prayer, and Holy Communion. Each participant will receive a devotional booklet and may come and go when they are ready. Please join us for this wonderful experience in which we anchor our souls in the love, grace, and presence of God. For the first Abide service in 2021, First Church member, Myra Schomburg created an opportunity to learn about the history and symbolism of the sanctuary windows. Download the brochure below to learn more about the windows or find a quiet time in the sanctuary to experience the devotional service.
Several years ago, First Church member Posy Lough, created several cross stitch patterns of the main east window cross. You can create your own cross to display proudly in your home.
