The Vine: April 27, 2026

This is a weekly reflection on the previous week’s sermon text.  Each week there will be a devotional related to the scripture for the week, along with questions for reflection/discussion, as well as prayer.  Feel free to make this a part of your individual spiritual growth throughout the week or utilize in small group settings (growth groups, Sunday school, etc.)

Yesterday was David Johnson’s last Sunday as an appointed pastor here at FUMC Round Rock.  David preached from a wonderful passage in Ephesians 1:15-16 in which Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus: “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.”  Just as Paul gave thanks to the church in Ephesus, we also give thanks today for one another.  I echo that same prayer in my gratefulness for David’s friendship and his ministry among us.

In addition to sending David off to his new appointment in Ft. Worth, we had the privilege of baptizing and confirming many of our students.  It was a great celebration of them saying, “Yes” to Jesus Christ and God’s grace and salvation.  In addition, we continued our support for them by reaffirming once again our commitment to their growth in faith.  Throughout the service I couldn’t help but think what a great gift this church is to all of us and how much we need each other – not just in the good times but especially in the difficult seasons of life.

So, I give thanks.  I give thanks to the ones who hold the door on Sunday morning with a smile and a kind word for all who enter worship.  I give thanks to the ones who serve by spending time with our children and students.  I give thanks to the ones who visit and care for those who are sick or homebound.  I give thanks to the ones who serve in mission in our community and beyond.  I give thanks for the great staff that I am privileged to serve alongside.  In short, I echo Paul’s message of giving thanks to all of you and remembering you in my prayers.

We are all very fortunate to be a part of the body of Christ in this special church!

In Christ,

Brad

Prayer:

Gracious God, we give you thanks for David, and we look forward to what you will accomplish through him at Arborlawn.  We are grateful for the gift of this church.  Help us to remember to give thanks to you in all things, especially our connection with one another.  Amen.

QUESTION FOR REFLECTION:

Write a note of appreciation and gratitude for someone today – a co-worker, family member, neighbor, church member, etc.
