Care

Our mission at First Church is to walk compassionately with others through the changing circumstances of life. We support each other through our Congregational Care Ministry which includes prayer, Congregational Care Minister support, pastoral support, specialized support groups, Stephen Ministry, and other caring ministries.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE MINISTER SUPPORT

Congregational Care Ministers (CCM) are ready and willing to support you in times of illness, death of loved ones, and other crises. CCMs are specially trained congregation members who have a heart for reaching out to people in all aspects of life. If you or a loved one have a need for a CCM, or you would like to receive Holy Communion in your home, please let us know by filling out the Request Congregational Care form below.

Pastoral Support

Pastors are available to visit and pray with you and/or loved ones in times of illness, death, or other crisis. If you have a pastoral emergency, call the church office at 512-255-3336 and ask to speak with a pastor or complete the Request Congregational Care form below.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a program of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers are committed Christian people who express God’s care to others through regular visits to offer Christian support and care. Stephen Ministers participate in regular support and supervision under the guidance of trained Stephen Leaders.

If you need someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to care, please let us know. We want to help. Complete the Request Congregational Care button above and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Specialized Support Groups

GriefShare

Losing a loved one is never easy. Coping with grief and loss is arguably one of the hardest things you will ever have to endure in life. Sadness, loneliness, and fear are only a few of the experiences we may feel when we lose someone we love.  First Church offers a 12- week curriculum based Grief Support Group periodically, as need is identified. This group is designed to be a place of support through sharing, learning, and caring. If you, or someone you know, is grieving the death of a loved one, we hope you will consider being a part of the next group. For more information, please complete the Get Information About Support Groups form below.

The next GriefShare support group at First United Methodist Church of Round Rock will start on Tuesday, August 20th at 9:30 am.

Surviving the Loss of a Spouse

The Surviving the Loss of a Spouse 2 hour seminar was created by the founders of GriefShare. Are you Widowed? Help is here and hope is possible! Our next seminar is Tuesday, August 13th at 9:30 am.

Surviving the Holidays

Surviving the Holidays is a 2 hour seminar, created by the founders of GriefShare. Our next seminar will be on Tuesday, November 12th at 9:30 am.

Divorce Care

If you are going through divorce or rebuilding your life after divorce, Divorce Care is offered periodically as need is identified. Using renowned video-based curriculum, this 13-week session works through the building blocks to help put your life back together in a healthy and less traumatic process. Because we offered DivorceCare in the Fall 2023, we will not have another class for awhile. For information about the next Divorce group, please complete the Get Information About Support Groups form below.

Footprints

The Footprints Children’s Grief Ministry mission is to serve children dealing with grief in a Faith-based environment that is safe and accepting of all emotions. We hope to help children identify and begin to understand and deal with emotions regarding the loss. While Footprints workshops are no longer held on our campus, we can assist you in finding a location where you and your child(ren) can attend. Child workshop age groups are 6-10 years, 11-15 years and 16-18 years. Parents have their own workshop with staffed trainiers at the same time. Worshops require a minimum of 6 families to form. Registration forms are online: www.campagapetexas.org. Camp Agape is now in charge of this ministry, but it is still a “Friend of First Church.”

Other Caring Ministries - Opportunities to serve

Bereavement Ministry

Deaths are difficult times. In addition to the support of our pastors, staff and volunteers, the Bereavement Ministry Team offers help by providing a small reception for all in attendance after the service.

Care Callers

“Thank you for calling me! It means so much that someone from the church would call about my mother.” This is a typical response for a Care Caller. These volunteers call those in the church who have expressed a concern for themselves or a loved one. They offer a caring ear of support and touch others in the name of Christ. Most conversations last only a few minutes, but in that simple, brief phone visit, a lot of love is communicated.

Caring Angels

Members of First Church minister to those in nursing homes, sick, and home bound. Each team member visits one person or family one-on-one as they are able. If you would like to help visit home-bound people or know someone who would benefit from visits, let us know below.

Church Mouse Program

A Church Mouse is a secret pal to a college student who anonymously sends notes, and care packages and prays for that student. Being a Church Mouse is a fun and easy way to support a young person who is just stepping into a world away from home! In addition, the Church Mouse program and congregation send a gift card twice each year during finals so that students can take a break from their studies. Church Mouse recruitment is done each August.
