In our world today there are many things that can serve as a source of apprehension and dread. These fears can take a serious toll on our wellbeing and serve as a reminder of our own insecurities, failings and inadequacies. BUT we serve a God who is bigger than that! We are so excited to announce that registration for DNOW 2024 is now open, and want to invite all 6th-12th Grade students to join us for a powerful weekend of worship, service, and community as we examine the fears in our lives and remember the faithfulness of God to carry us through.
Disciple Now, or DNOW for short, is an in town Spiritual Retreat weekend for students in grades 6-12 on the weekend of Feb 23-25. We are super excited to welcome Brian Drake (illusionist), Patrick Bohmfalk and his band (worship leaders), and Stephanie Huyser (Minister of Youth and Recreation at Texas Baptist Children’s Home) to lead our students in worship this weekend as they wrestle with the topic of fear from a biblical perspective.
Throughout the weekend our students will be chaperoned and led by teams of trusted adults and college students(all of whom are Ministry Safe certified and Background Checked) who are focused on providing the best possible experience for our students to grow in their faith. Students will stay in host homes (members of our congregation who volunteer to host student groups for the weekend) and be led in Bible Study and discussion by young adult leaders (many of these students are former students of FUMC RR or are friends of theirs from college who are committed to walking in faith).
Worship rallies will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings. This year the rallies will be held at FUMC Georgetown, but students will still stay at homes of our congregation members and be transported throughout the weekend. Students will participate in a Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Build on Saturday where our students will build beds for kids in our community that do not have one. We strongly encourage students to invite friends to join us in this life changing experience!
Cost for DNOW is $60 but EARLY BIRD PRICING OF $50 IS AVAILABLE THROUGH FEB 4th.
Host homes are a vital part of DNOW weekend and we need more of them! Groups of 5-8 students plus their young adult leaders will stay at host homes from Friday evening through Sunday morning. Students will engage in a variety of events throughout the weekend and be transported by volunteers to and from these events, before returning to homes for devotionals, discussions, and to sleep. If you are able to host a group of students and college leaders please contact taylor@fumc-rr.org.
