Heart to Heart Quilting Ministry
The Blessing of the Quilts will be on Sunday, October 26th! We know you will not want to miss it!
A Summer Highlight from Heart to Heart Quilt Ministry
From July 21 to 25, FUMC's Heart to Heart Quilt Ministry hosted a Quilt Camp for young girls ages 10–14. Held each afternoon from 1 - 4 pm, the five-day camp offered a total of 15 hours of hands-on instruction and creativity. Participants, whose sewing experience ranged from none to minimal, each completed two quilts...one to keep and one to donate to a child in need through the Heart to Heart (H2H) quilt ministry.
This was the first time any of the girls had made a quilt from start to finish. With the guidance and support of 12 dedicated volunteers from H2H, the girls learned fundamental quilting techniques in a fun and encouraging environment. By the end of the week, each participant proudly displayed her finished quilts, having gained new skills and the joy of giving through service. Notice the variety of beautiful quilts the campers created. It is interesting to note that they are all made from the same pattern. The choice of fabrics makes all the difference!
The camp was a meaningful and memorable experience for everyone involved. Volunteers included Candy Garrett, Connie Nagle, Karen Reyna, Sharon Nobles, Dottie Hall, Kathy Sweney, Deb Kreczmer, Debbie Chancey, Mary Jane Reuter, Tommye Peterman, Trisha Salcher, and Angie Burns. Many others assisted the camp through their prayers and support.
Meanwhile, the quilters are busy quilting (about 600 quilts so far this year) and are looking forward to the Blessing of the Quilts on Sunday, October 26. This year, 279 quilts have been donated to Dell Children's Hospital Austin, Dell Children's Hospital North, and Texas Children's Hospital.
Quilters strive to follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ to comfort the afflicted by providing quilts to children ages 17 years and younger with catastrophic illnesses or in difficult social situations. They pray as they stitch love into every quilt. Join the quilters on Thursdays at 9:30 am or 5:30 pm at 115 Winsted House on our campus.
If you have never quilted, we will teach you. If you already have basic sewing or quilting skills, we will help you get started making children’s quilts. You don’t need to bring any supplies to your first meeting. We will supply what you need to get started. Come and join us…morning or evening! For more information, email Quilters@fumc-rr.org.
