Holy Week

Holy Week

Holy Week at First Church

We invite you to join us for our upcoming Holy Week and Easter services. One of the Christian church’s most important liturgical seasons, we remember the death of Jesus Christ and celebrate his resurrection. Together we rejoice that hope prevails over despair, and because of God’s love for the world, new life is always possible. Holy Week is a beautiful time to invite friends and family to join you in worship at First Church. We pray that you will experience Christ in fresh and meaningful ways during this season.

Palm Sunday
April 14

We begin on Palm Sunday by joyously shouting, “Hosanna in the highest!” as Jesus enters Jerusalem on his way to the cross. Come worship with us on Sunday, April 14, during our 8:30 am, 9:40 am, or our 11:00 am services. Children and their families are invited to experience Resurrection Celebration: a walk through Holy Week from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Families are encouraged to sign up for a start time.

Holy Thursday
April 18 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary

Holy Thursday, on Thursday, April 18, will be a reflective and interactive experience of communion, prayer, and foot washing. Worshiping on Holy Thursday will be a meaningful way to begin the three days before Easter.

Childcare will be available in Building 2, Pod B.

Good Friday
April 19 at 7 pm in Twin Oaks Courtyard moving into the Family Life Center

This year we will enter Good Friday through a Tenebrae service which ends in total darkness, symbolizing the approaching darkness of Jesus’ death and the hopelessness in the world without God. Our service will begin in the courtyard, led by our youth, and then move to the Family Life Center. Join us for a solemn and reflective service of prayer, song, and Scripture readings.

Childcare will be available in Building 2, Pod B.

Easter Sunday – April 21

9 and 11 am: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary
9 and 11 am: Contemporary worship in the Family Life Center
In order to offer families the opportunity to worship together, there will be no Bible Buddies or Children’s Sunday School on Easter Sunday.  Childcare for 2 years and younger will be in Building 2, Pod C during all services. There will also be no Sunday School for youth and adults. The Twin Oaks Cafe will not be open on Easter Sunday.

Yes…We will have a Flowering Cross!

Everyone is invited to bring fresh, cut flowers on Easter morning to create our Flowering Cross. The cross will be prominently placed outside the church so that flowers can be placed on the mesh frame, as a sign and witness to the joy and beauty of our Easter proclamation, “Christ Is Risen!”
