Vacation Bible School 2019 Recap!

VBS ROAR 2019 was a huge success at First Church! In two weeks in June, we had 374 children, ages 3-10, plus an army of dedicated youth and adult volunteers on campus. Children began and ended each day with worship in the sanctuary, which included lots of singing, dancing and even some humorous skits! In between, groups rotated to various stations such as Bible Adventures, Games, Snacks, Kid Video and Imagination Station. Each day all activities focused on a different Bible point: God is GOOD even when life is unfair, scary, changing, sad and good.

In addition to learning about God’s goodness, the children all participated in daily missions. For our local mission, we collected non-perishable goods to restock the shelves at the Round Rock Area Serving Center.  Over 950 pounds of food were collected in the two weeks for the Serving Center!  For our global mission, we donated cash for Operation Kid-to-Kid, an organization that gives children the opportunity to help other children around the world. This year, the money collected will be sent to Zambia to help expectant and new moms and their babies get the brightest beginning possible. Our donations will fund prenatal care as well as adequate nutrition and health care for infants to age 2.     Congratulations to the children for bringing in $1019.41 for Operation Kid-to-Kid!  Those funds will provide care for over 100 Moms and babies for two years!

Our fifth-grade program is completely mission-focused, with a variety of projects in between worship each day. Students made dog biscuits for the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and placemats for the Veterans program at the Ride on Center for Kids. They also traveled to off-site missions…stocking shelves at the RRASC, making lunch for guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Austin and visiting residents at senior living facilities…and came back energized and excited about serving each day!

Many thanks to all of the volunteers, participants and donors that made these two weeks successful!

Mark your calendars for VBS in June 2020 and registration in March!
