Men’s Ministry

United Methodist Men

United Methodist Men (UMM) promotes the spiritual growth of men through effective discipleship and models the servant leadership of Christ in our daily lives. We currently have two UMM groups at First Church.

  • The Tuesday group gathers between 8 & 9 am at Juarez Restaurant on South Mays for food and fellowship. Contact: Rich Thompson at 512.694.6729, or Ben Watson at 512.623.0025.
  • The Wednesday group meets for breakfast and fellowship at 6:15 am on Wednesdays in the Family Life Center. Contact: Steve McCord, mccords1007@yahoo.com.

Both groups participate in UMM special events and activities. We love to serve! Several times a year, we spend the weekend cooking either brisket, chicken, or chili, making cobbler, and then showing up on Sunday morning to sell them during the worship services…all of the proceeds to benefit the ministries of First Church. You’ll find us making breakfast for the youth during their retreats, hot dog lunches for the preschool, taking care of our wonderful church property and any other time that we can help!

Men's Retreat

UMM Spring Retreat – Join us for fellowship and recreation

Each year, the UMM enjoy a Spring Retreat at the Lakehouse at Willow Point Resort on Lake Buchanan, 1400 RR 261, Buchanan Dam, TX 78609.

All men are invited! The retreat is a come and go event with charges only for the time actually spent, so please plan to come even if you are not able to participate the full number of days. Activities include eating, domino playing, fishing, reading, napping, tall tale telling, and yard games. There are nearby golf courses as well.

Cost: TBA before the next spring retreat. Those under 16 may come at no charge, so bring a future UMM member with you!

Meals: Some are provided. Some are YOYO (you’re on your own).

To register: Sign up sheets will be available at UMM Breakfast meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. You may also register by contacting Steve Oltmanns,  soltmanns42@gmail.com or 512.636.6299.
