Serve in Caring Ministry

There are many ways to serve in the Caring Ministry of First Church!

Caring Angels:  Home-Bound Visitation Ministry

Members of First Church minister to those in nursing homes, sick, and home bound through weekly visits.  Each team member visits one person or family one-on-one as they are able.  If you would like to help visit home-bound people, please contact Bea Adams.

A special project of Caring Angels is the Christmas Stocking project. They make stockings each year, then fill and deliver them to our homebound seniors during the Christmas season.

If you know of a church member who would benefit from visits, please contact Rae Frenette at or 512-255-3336.

Church Mouse Program

A Church Mouse is like a secret pal to a college student who anonymously sends notes, and care packages and prays for that student. Being a Church Mouse is a fun and easy way to support a young person who is just stepping into a world away from home! In addition, the Church Mouse program and congregation send a gift card twice each year during finals so that students can take a break from their studies. Church Mouse recruitment is done each August.

This year, Church Mouse Adoption Day will be Sunday, August 28. Come by and adopt a student or make a financial contribution. There are around 75 students in the program so every little bit helps! Questions? Contact Cheryl Lancaster at 512-750-8558 or

Offering Prayer

At First Church there are opportunities to both gather for communal prayer and offer prayer from wherever you’re sitting.

  • Join us weekly for  guided prayer when we gather for Brown Bag Theologians, Tuesdays at noon. Together we pray for those on the church’s prayer list, those that are lifted up each week, and those unknown people who will be visiting worship.  In addition we pray for our church, community, nation, and world.
  • The Email Prayer Chain gives you opportunity to pray immediately for the needs of others.  By joining the chain, you commit to pray from wherever you sit for the concerns that are emailed to you.  Emails are sent out at the rate that they are received.

Do you have questions about prayer?  Contact Dr. Will Cotton,
