Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. –Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer is an essential ministry of any church. At First Church we seek to support each other through prayer. There are a number of opportunities for prayer including prayer times in our weekly worship services, prayer in small groups, through connection with our prayer chain and praying the labyrinth located on our church campus.
Names of persons to keep in our prayers are submitted and printed weekly in Connections newsletter under the title “Let Us Pray Together.” There you will find names of persons in our church family, our ministry candidates, extended family and those who have lost a loved one by death. Members are invited to keep this list and pray for those on the list along with others they know of that are not listed.
The names that appear in the Connections are prayed for weekly by those gathered for the Brown Bag Theologians that meets over lunch each Tuesday under the leadership of Rev. Katie Meek.
If you would like to submit a name for prayer, you are invited to fill out the Prayer Request Form online. In addition, prayer requests can be submitted using the Prayer Request Form found in the Sanctuary Foyer and the registration books. Then they can be submitted in the offering plate, prayer box in the Sanctuary Foyer or brought to the church office. Please indicate, as the form requests, whether you would like the name to appear in the Connections. This form also includes the opportunity to request a pastoral call or if you would like to visit with a Stephen Minister. You may also call the Church Office at 512-255-3336 or email our Church Office Manager Wanell Soslow, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The First Church Email Prayer Chain offers the opportunity to pray immediately for the needs of others. Persons in this ministry receive prayer requests by email and commit to promptly pray wherever they are for the person and/or concern received. All prayer request are confidential and will not be shared with others. Email prayer requests are sent out at the rate that they are received. To join the Prayer Chain or request prayers for yourself or others, please send a request to email@example.com.
The Prayer Labyrinth is located just south of the Sanctuary adjacent to the Garden of the Saints Columbarium. The Prayer Labyrinth is a pathway that invites walking prayer, meditation and rest in the Lord. For more information on praying the labyrinth or this ministry, contact Rev. Dr. Beverly Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Prayer Labyrinth group forming –
A group of people who are interested in our church’s prayer labyrinth and how to extend its ministry to others is forming. If you’d like to find out more about the Prayer Labyrinth Group, contact Rev. Dr. Beverly Jones.
Shawls are knitted in prayer and blessed by persons in our congregation who combine the gift of their handwork with prayer for those who will receive them. The shawls are presented to persons who are ill or who have a special need. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry contact Rev. Dr. Beverly Jones at email@example.com.
