Special Concert with the Kiev Symphony and Chorus
Sunday, October 7 at 6 pm in the Sanctuary
by Michael Rosensteel, Director of Music Ministry
I am thrilled to invite you all to a very special concert coming up on Sunday, October 7th at 6 pm in our Sanctuary. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will be sharing their passion for music and their love of Christ at First Church, as part of their five-week tour of the United States. For the Ukrainian musicians of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (KSOC), music is both a profession and calling. Many of the members are graduates of the world-renowned Tchaikovsky National Music Academy and regularly perform both cultural songs and sacred masterpieces of classical music in Ukraine and at churches, colleges, and concert halls throughout the world. The gospel lives and breathes in the music they share. It has transformed their lives, and it’s their joy to share that transformation with people around the world.
What began as an opportunity to share the gospel through music has grown into Music Mission Kiev, a thriving ministry that focuses on evangelism, discipleship, and compassionate care for widows, orphans, and victims of war in Ukraine.
On a personal note, I had the privilege of experiencing the missional work of Music Mission Kiev on a choir tour back in 2006. We worshipped with them, went into homes of widows/widowers, visited a youth camp, and ultimately was fortunate enough to perform a concert in St. Catherine’s Cathedral in Kiev. The concert was made entirely of American music, and singing alongside them was one of the highlights of my musical career.
This is an amazing ministry and I strongly encourage you to come and experience their powerful music. The concert is free and there will be a free-will offering. All proceeds will help fund their tour and Music Mission Kiev. I hope to see you there!
