Family Life Center – First United Methodist Church, Round Rock
Each year the First Church Handbell Ministry hosts a Pops concert. This very popular event is a benefit which stars our two 5-octave adult bell teams, Jubilation and Council Oak Bells. Also featured is the dynamic Sound of Joy Bell Quartet, as well as special guest singers and instrumentalists. Beyond the wonderful music, Pops is an event which transforms our Family Life Center (Building 3) into a dinner theatre atmosphere. Tables are decorated and the stage is set for an evening of family fellowship, music, and fun! Audience members are asked to bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to gourmet as those in attendance enjoy one another’s company for dinner. Beverages (tea, lemonade, water and coffee) are provided by an eager wait staff. A concert follows the meal…full of music one might not expect to hear from handbells! Old Hollywood, current and 70’s pop, classical transcriptions and original works are all included in this year’s musical menu! And we always include a few surprises!
This year, all profits collected at Pops will go directly to The First Church Backpack Project in honor of First Church Member, Kathy Ford. Kathy one of the founders and current director of the Backpack Coalition, a non-profit organization based in Round Rock. The First Church Backpack Project is a part of this coalition and works specifically to provide food for weekend meals and snacks to students in need at Wells Branch Elementary and Bluebonnet Elementary. Both of these schools are Title One schools and among the neediest in our immediate area. Ringers will perform in honor of Kathy and all her selfless volunteers who seek to feed needy children who live locally in order that these children be given an opportunity to learn and succeed.
Audience members are asked to secure reserved table seating prior to the event. All table seating is reserved. Most tables seat 6 people. These tickets are free of charge. Ten premium tables are available for a donation of $100 each. These premium round tables seat 8. Tickets will be distributed outside the north door of the Sanctuary between worship services on the following Sundays: April 9 (Palm Sunday), April 23 and April 30. Table tickets are also available through our church office during business hours beginning Monday, April 10.
Please note: there will be additional seating at Pops along the north wall of the Family Life Center for those who do not wish to eat at 5:30 pm. Pick up your premium admission ticket in the office during the week OR on one of the Sunday distribution dates. This ticket is for the musical portion of the evening only – beginning at 6:30pm.
We invite you to join us as we Reach for the Stars on Saturday, May 6. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!
