New Initiatives for the Greater Round Rock village

Get in on the ground floor of the creation of new mission initiatives in Greater Round Rock!  The Outreach Leadership Team is gathering interested persons to investigate and discern together how First Church might deepen our engagement and impact with the poor and suffering in our city.  As a jumping off point we will be reading together the important and challenging book “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor” by Fikkert and Crobett.  Join us for a short informational meeting on April 30 at 12:15 in Adkins Bldg. 5-127. (RSVP here).

And mark your calendar for a study retreat on June 9 (6:30-9 pm) and 10 (8:30-4:30 pm).

First Church Backpack Project

We hope you will join us in this ministry to local children. The Backpack Project works to provide food for seven weekend meals plus snacks to students in need at Wells Branch Elementary, and also supports the efforts at Bluebonnet Elementary. Both schools are Title 1 and among the neediest in the school district. $25 per month supports a child…. and we serve roughly 100 each week in both schools. This affords every child in our schools the opportunity to learn and succeed. Won’t you help in this effort? If you’d like to learn more or volunteer with Friday distributions, contact Kathy Ford at Click to learn more about the First Church Backpack Ministry.

Small Groups

Mission and Outreach is meant to be integrated into the life of faith.  Thus many small groups which meet for other reasons organically find themselves reaching out in mission.  Many fellowship and study groups such as Sunday School, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and MOM’s Group do regular mission projects as a part of their ongoing work.
