We had a wonderful Day!

Nearly 180 women (a sold out event) joined together in the Family Life Center on Saturday, April 6 for a fun-filled, inspiring day. Our Theme for the day was "What Not To Wear" and keynote speaker, Dr. Leah McDill, shared thoughtful and humorous insights on how we can have a real makeover by accepting that we are all created in God's image and be good stewards of his creativity by subsituting unhealthy pride with humility and good stewardship. To let resentment be replaced by gratitude and joy. Selfishness is transformed into serving others. Whining is made over into praises, and a bad attitude is made good by learning how to negotiate and set healthy boundaries. Dr. McDill encouraged us all to remember that when God created each one of us he probably said, "Ta-DA!"

Keynote Speaker

In our main sessions, our keynote speaker, Dr. Leah McDill, helped us undertake our spiritual makeover by looking at "What are you wearing?" and "How does it reflect the Father?" We learned how we process information or emotion internally by addressing Pride, Anger, and Selfishness. We’ll also addressed Whining and Bad Attitude, ways we interact (externally) with others. Jesus said that they will know you by your love; and this highlights that people first see the external appearance which is merely a reflection of the internal fruit.

Dr. McDill is a professional counselor and board approved supervisor who holds a doctorate of philosophy in marriage and family therapy. She holds a Master of Arts degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary as well as a Master of Arts degrees in marriage and family therapy and Christian counseling from Oral Roberts University. She is also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Christian Counselors of Texas and founder and president of The Net Connection.

What’s Your Style? How Has God Fashioned You? with Laura Naiser
Participants in this session learned how the Master Stylist has uniquely designed our spiritual type and spiritual gifts so we can make the most of our spiritual life and God’s purpose for us. Participants in this course completed an online survey that is integral to the material covered in class. If you were unable to complete your survey before class, you can still complete it now.

First, Put On Joy! with Betty Robertson
This session offered a hilarious, yet meaningful, look at the importance of joy in our lives. Life is not a stress rehearsal.
So why practice making daily life a drama when you could create a musical or comedy? First, Put on Joy  looked at how to reduce feelings of tension and bring joy, passion and gusto into your life.

Dressed for the Task: Choosing Garments of Praise with Norma Harvey-Slager
Is your prayer life worn out, too tight, colorless? Does it just not seem to fit you anymore—if it ever did? Are there things in that closet that still have the tags on that looked good in the store or you are sure you will use “one day”? In this session participants explored the basics of their prayer beliefs, “tried on” some selections, and received  guidance and support for cleaning out their closet and creating a whole new wardrobe of prayer relationship with God. This interactive session will offered large and small group discussions as well as opportunities to practice and experience a variety of prayer styles.

Communication Styles & Time Management with Marilee Robertson, Certified Professional Behavioral and Values Analyst, and President of Acceleratus, a corporate training firm. Those participating in these two breakout sessions completed a 10 minute online survey which was integral to the session. This course normally retails for $200 but was being provided at no additional charge by our presenter.

  • Morning Session: What Not to Say
Remember what Mom used to say..."It's not what you said, but how you said it." Effective commnication can be learned by understanding human behavior. In this 1 ½ hour session, participants learned about a Behavior Model and how to best communicate with everyone. They learned their own personal communication strengths and how to maximize them to build strong, quality relationships with all four behavior styles.
  • Afternoon Session: Time Management--Getting 3 Pounds of Jello in a 2 Pound Bag
If we could ever have a wish come true, it would be to have more time. In this 1 ½ hour session, participants discovered why some people appear to get more done than others. They also discovered why they do or do not accomplish all they plan to do in a day. Together, they explored what each could do to be more time effective. Our communication style (discussions from the AM session) helped us best understand how we embrace time. This was a follow-up session to the morning session Communication: What Not To Say.

Yoga: Inner Rest for Your Outer Stress with Debra Isaac offered the perfect opportunity to try out yoga in a fun, relaxed setting. Modifications were shown to make the benefits of yoga accessible to all fitness levels.

Loving Well: A Beth Moore Study facilitated by Patti Maund.
Via video tape, this renowned women’s Bible teacher revealed biblical truths about loving even those testy and trying people in your life. Participants laughed, cried, and were inspired by Beth’s compelling stories and teaching.
