Heart to Heart Quilting Ministry

bookmark articleprint articleemail article

Heart to Heart began in November, 1999 with 9 individuals in a room in Payne Cottage and has grown to 30 members and several rooms in the Winsted House. The quilts are hand-pieced and either hand or machine quilted. The individual quilter decides on what design – traditional, appliqué or original – and then creates the quilt.

As of September, 2008 the quilters have created 110 quilts this year. They average 100 quilts a year and in 2009, the group will pass the 1,000 mark on quilts donated to children in need. The quilts are given to children, 17 years and younger, who have experienced catastrophic illness or who are in a difficult social situation. Quilts are also given to Children’s Hospital in Austin, Women’s Crisis Center, Child Welfare Rainbow Room and the Pediatric Aids League.

We pray for the children to whom we have donated quilts and hope their quilt will bring them much comfort and joy. Our quilters are enthusiastic about their projects and there is a lot of love and creativity that goes into each quilt. We also have people in the group who work to assist quilters with the hand sewing of bindings and labels, and also iron and cut fabric.

All this could not be done with the assistance of fellow church members, who donate facric, quilting tools, thread or batting. Heart to Heart receives no budgeted funds from First Church. Heart to Heart wishes to thank all who have helped the group and asks for your prayers for their ministry.

The quilters meet on Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon in the Winsted House.
