Holy Week Services

Each year the church returns to one week of intense worship, a roller-coaster ride of emotions as we observe and share the last week of Jesus’ life.

  • Palm Sunday, when we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem in triumph, is now sometimes also called “Passion Sunday” since the entire Passion narrative from the entry to the tomb is prescribed as the Scripture reading for the day.
  • Maundy Thursday lets us share the Upper Room Passover meal Jesus took with his disciples. It reminds us again of why we so regularly return to this sacrament in our worship.
  • Good Friday – not good as we sometimes think, but God’s Friday – is observed with services of darkness as we watch Jesus tried and crucified and laid in a tomb. Sorrow and despair fill the readings; black is the liturgical color of this one day.
  • And early on the first day – Sunday, Easter Sunday – we join those faithful women who discover the tomb empty, and begin to experience the glory of God’s victory through Christ’s Resurrection. We rise as early as possible so as not to miss a moment of this wondrous event.

To celebrate these moments, we have scheduled several special worship services.

  • Palm Sunday – Worship as usual at 8:30, 9:40 and 11 am
  • Maundy Thursday – Communion at 7:30 p.m.
  • Good Friday – Worship at 7:30 p.m.
  • Easter Sunday 7:30 am – Sunrise Service
     8:00 am – Crossroads Celebration
     9:30 am – Celebration Service
     11:00 am – Celebration Service
