Christmastide Devotional - December 31st

12/27/2006

Mary and Joseph remain an example for us! As we receive the gift of God’s grace, they remind us that the “Law” is still a righteous directive for life! That law has gotten a bad reputation is partly a result of our trying to get around it, to avoid it and make excuses for why we should be exempted from particular parts of it. more

Christmastide Devotional - December 30th

The Wise Men reached their destination and worshipped the Messiah. Their gifts were presented with love and reverence. And, being wise, they listened to the dreams God sent, recognized Herod’s duplicity, and ignored his request for information, going home “another way.” Some translations read “a different way” which hints at something else which seems rather important. more

Christmastide Devotional - December 29th

12/27/2006

One of the people scripture introduces us to during Christmastide is Simeon – “a righteous and devout man” on whom the Holy Spirit rested. There was a prophecy associated with him -- that he would live to see the Messiah. This seems to have led the people to regard him with awe and reverence. more

Christmastide Devotional - December 28th

12/27/2006

How do we become aware of God’s presence? We are constantly looking for miracles, signs proving God’s power and glory – wonderful healings, rescues at desperate moments, storms stilled on sea and in life, food for a multitude. On the other hand, at times I marvel at just how far the Lord has to go to get our attention! Burning bushes, great floods, visions of the heavenly realms – all of these are recorded with awe. more

Christmastide Devotional - December 27th

Back to work...to those routines of our “normal” lif, our comfort zone. For there we know what to do, how to do it, and our skills are honed to some level of excellence. Of course, the workday world also dulls our senses to the presence of God. more

Christmastide Devotional - December 26th

12/25/2006

Here we are, the morning after Christmas – most of us slightly stunned from the food and frenzy of our modern way of observing Jesus’ birth, in which Christ seldom has much part. It’s over so quickly, but to “get back to normal” takes more time! more

12/17/2006

Please join us for the Traveler's Communion Service, an opportunity for those who will be traveling for Christmas to worship with their home church. Daily Advent Devotional - December 25th

12/17/2006

Today the wait is over. Today we have cause for celebration! Our Messiah is born, and we realize God is still at work in our midst! more

Daily Advent Devotional - December 24th

12/17/2006

Our Christmas carols are full of those angels who announce the birth of the Messiah! This seems the proper way to celebrate good news...with songs of praise and thanksgiving. We read in Revelation that the common conversation in heaven is the multitudes gathered around the throne of God singing praises. While sometimes angels are messengers of judgment, we more commonly associate them with the joy of God’s great good works. They bring the gift of praise to the manger. more
