This program is dedicated to the UMW’s Mission for Prevention of Human Trafficking…the Interdiction for the Protection of Children (IPC).

United Methodist Women have been very active through our District and Conference this year to make human trafficking one of our Social Action Goals for the year. We were fortunate in August to hear a program from Texas Dept. of Public Safety that was the brainchild of a DPS officer, who, while he was involved in the fight against drugs, thought that there might an additional way to find those criminals who were exploiting humans, especially women and children. The result is the Interdiction for the Protection of Children program. The success of the IPC’s concept is attributed to law enforcement’s Three R’s – Resolve, Resources, and the Right People. As a result of IPC training, DPS has initiated more than 30 criminal investigations and recovered 112 missing or endangered children and have provided training to 7,120 officers in Texas, nationally and internationally, even to Scotland Yard.

But as in all start-up new programs in the government, funding is inadequate. They have partial access to a federal grant money received in 2014 but more is needed. We want to help. This is the main goal of this luncheon…to raise monies that will contribute in some small way to these dedicated men and women who volunteer to be involved in the program.
