How to Submit Items for Publication in the Newsletter

The monthly newsletter, The Messenger, is mailed to all households on the church mailing list (approximately 1,400 addresses) once per month. Submissions should be sent to newsletter@fumc-rr.org or dropped off to Laura Naiser in the church office.

Submitting Articles and Information

Submissions should be in a format that is ready for publication. If you are submitting an article, all text should be written as you would want it to appear in the newsletter. If you are submitting an “ad” for your ministry, it should be submitted “camera ready” as either a JPEG or TIFF file (see "Photos & Graphics" below).

Should you need assistance in writing your article, please contact Laura Naiser at least one week prior to the submission deadline so she can try to arrange a volunteer writer/reporter to assist you with writing your article.

While every effort will be made to include all submissions, any submission may be edited or not printed due to space/content.

Photos & Graphics

If you are submitting an “ad” for your ministry, it should be submitted “camera ready” as either a JPEG or TIFF file. All photos submitted should be 200 dpi. It is helpful if the photos or graphics are in a TIFF format and in CMYK color mode. If the photo is of people it must be submitted with a copy of a Media Permission and Release Form signed by each person featured in the photo. (A PDF version of this form will be available online soon. In the meantime, you can obtain one from Laura Naiser in the church office). For events such as Vacation Bible School, the Permission/Release may be included as part of the persons event registration. In those instances, an additional form is not necessary so long as it is confirmed by the person submitting the photo that the person turned in a release as part of their event registration.

It is helpful if the width of the graphic is one of the following measurements.

One column: 1.8834 inches
Two columns: 4.0168 inches

Newsletter Insert

Items such as a flyer, survey, etc. may be inserted into the Messenger newsletter. Inserts must be scheduled by the deadline shown on the deadline schedule. Contact Laura Naiser to schedule your insert. Inserts must be authorized and approved by the Program Director of the associated ministry area. The production costs and the fee charged by UMR for placing the insert (typically about $75) must be covered by the ministry placing the insert.
